My friend Rob Osterwise texted me last week saying he would be visiting Washington, DC on business. Rob and I go way back to the early days in high school. We’ve stayed friends throughout college and long thereafter. He left St. Louis in 1994 with Tracy (Weber) for a new job, and just last year moved to Atlanta.
This is the first time I’ve seen Rob since June 2008. That was when Lindsey and I visited his home in Dallas. Also ,that was when I received a phone call about the gig in DC.
Rob is in only in town for a couple days, so we played catch up after Lindsey and I took him to dinner at Gordon Biersch at the Rockville Town Square. Afterwards, I showed him some old high school friends that have recently popped up on Facebook, and we shared some pretty good laughs.
The next day, we met up again, and we took the Metro down to WUSA 9 to meet up with Lindsey. I gave Rob the mini-tour, then we drove downtown and had some brew at Capitol City Brewing Company. This is one of my favorite places in DC, because you can see the U.S. Capitol Dome from inside the restaurant. After that we walked around Union Station a bit, then headed back to the apartment and called it a night.
Rob is planning to visit again for an entire week at the end of March, which is also when I’m taking my Gannett furlough. Exciting times ahead.
