So, now that I’m serious about getting this weight off, I spent hours at Barnes & Noble over the weekend reading books about weight loss and getting fit. I bought two books:
- Illustrated: Weight Training by Maran Graphics
- Daily Planner: Workout Journal by Alex A. Lluch
The weight training illustrated book is a great book for seeing exactly what muscles are being used with each routine in the gym. They also show you the big “don’t” of each workout.
But the reason for this blog is for the other book. It’s exactly what I need to keep my journey to weight loss going. I feel like I’ve tried so many things and keep falling off the ladder and starting over, but I think this journal puts all the things I want in logging a workout in one easy place.
Already, I’m keeping track of things I haven’t thought of before, such as pulse, blood pressure, and Body Fat %. I also did a pre-journey fit test, where I measured how many situps, pushups, squats, and sit & reaches. I was evaluated as “great” for the pushups and squats, but sucked big time on the sit ups and sit & reaches. I’m supposed to track these every six weeks to see how much I progress in those areas. I’m also measuring body parts like thigh, hip, arms, etc on a monthly basis. This has also inspired me to set up a doctor’s appointment to get my HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol and Glucose checked…see? I’m serious about this!
I’m also tracking calories burned, hours of sleep, resting pulse, water intake, and jotting down notes about my nutrition or any reminders. And it’s very easy to carry around the gym. I bought a refillable pencil with clip, too, so it’s super convenient. There’s also a place for a “before pic” and “current pic” which is really handy when you want a little motivation.
After my first workout with the journal, I feel great. I walked into the gym fighting today, walked out feeling pukey, but now that a couple hours have passed, I’m very energetic and eager to be obsessed with my weight loss. I can’t wait to look back on it as the next 6 months pass. Hoping to complete by November 18th, which is 6 months from today.
I highly recommend this book. One day, and I’m already making a big difference in my weight loss journey! And only $14.95 or cheaper at Amazon.com.

Hi Jill, sorry it took so long to respond. The journal was working greatfor me! UNTIL..I decided to run a marathon, then I started blogging online, and that took up most my time. It's a great book though, and I highlyrecommend it. It's a great way to stay on track. I recommend going to alocal Barnes & Noble and flipping through the pages instead of buyingonline. One you see it in front of you, you'll know if it's the rightjournal for you.Take care
