Today I started my weekday 4-milers. Up to this point, I’ve been running 3 miles during the week.  These runs are becoming pretty easy for me now, so I stepped up my pace a bit today and pushed myself off and on as much as I could. The rain had cooled off the night, and it was still muggy on the trail, so I didn’t overheat like I usually do.

Oh, and I lost 8 pounds over the weekend! I’ve been struggling to see any weight loss since I started training, then suddenly the scale showed the drop! Don’t know why the body works the way it does, but I’ll take all I can get!

Moving onto something completely different, I’m thinking about buying a Trikke. I’ve been staring this thing down since I first saw one 4 years ago at Forest Park in St. Louis. Doing some research today, I found out they’re great for full body workouts and cardio.  People are buying them to lose weight, claiming they burn more calories than most high aerobic activities.  It’s also low impact, which is good on the knees.  At first, getting the hang of operating this in a nice level parking lot takes a couple hours, but once you find that “sweet spot”, it’s easy.  Trikkes say they get a lot of attention wherever they go, since people ask what it is and where to buy it.

The Trikke is hard to find here in DC with only a couple locations that have a full line of bikes.  I ran into Dick’s Sporting Goods this evening to see what they had, but they only carried the young adults/kids bike, not the Trikke 8 which is for adults and is available online only.

There’s also a Meetup.com group for Trikkes in the Metro DC area, but the 35-member group closed the group as of yesterday.

Lots of forums are mentioning an infomercial that must be running in some parts of the country:

I may buy one and test it out before I fully commit to it. Buying this means also buying the accessories and a helmet. And I have to really learn how to get around pedestrians in tight spaces (like on running trails). But what a thrill it would be to take this out for 20 or 30 miles on a weekend trail. And it’s collapsible and easy to store in the car.

Thoughts:

An easy run. Felt good to push myself today.

Just feeling like I’m ready for longer runs.
