It’s near the end of the first week of my newfound mission to shed the pounds, and every day I wake up I’m amazed at the results and thankful that I didn’t give in to temptation and fall off my routine. Thanks to my new eating regimen and hardcore discipline, I’ve shed eight pounds since Sunday. I’m tackling this challenge head on.

Changes that are working/habits that are forming:

  • Counting every calorie. Total calories must be no more than 1,750 a day. That means 1,750 with no exercise, or 2000 calories with 250 calories burned in exercise. Whatever the case, the eaten and burned calories is no more than 1,750.
  • Running to the gym! How crazy is that? By walking to and riding on the Metro, it takes 40 minutes to get to the gym. By running, it takes 45 minutes. I burn more than 700 calories on the run, and then I have my 40-minute personal training session. Makes for a ton of burned calories each day.
  • Ratio of food: 40% protein, 35% carbs, 25% fat. It’s been consistent everyday.
  • Bonus: I jot down the foods I was tempted by but did not eat (office food, going out, snacks from others, etc), and I keep a running tab to see how many extra calories I could have eaten. So far, I’ve avoided eating over 2,500 calories this week alone.

And on top of the weight loss, my allergies are down, I’m less congested, I have less headaches and more energy.

Are there any habits you were determined to get rid of, and has it been a long-term success?
