It’s that time of year again when the weight loss programs are in full effect. Television morning shows have guests that talk about getting in shape, and you’ll start seeing that Special K “lose 6 pounds in 2 weeks” commercial again.  It does make you regret all the bad eating you’ve done since Halloween when the time change kept you from getting in shape after work.

I’ve been trying most of 2010 to lose weight, and here I am at the last week of the year, and it has once again been a complete bust. Going into the Fall, I lost about 17 pounds, but gained all but 3 back. And considering the money I spent in personal training, that was the worst return on investment ever.  But I’m not writing all those training sessions off entirely. I learned a lot from my trainer, mostly on how to strengthen your core, whereas in the past, I’ve worked on training the arms, legs and shoulder muscles separately.

So, taking that knowledge plus the knowledge from past personal training sessions, I’m going to (once again) try this weight loss attempt again. I’m pretty tired of restarting this, and maybe in a later post I’ll dive into why I think my previous attempts aren’t working.  But there’s no better time to start again than now, and I’m taking all lessons from the past and writing them off as experience and lessons learned. I’m holding off personal training for 30 days and seeing how well I do.

My plans:

1. Write down every calorie I eat and burn (using MyNetDiary iPhone app)
2. Get to the gym 5 days a week. Some days I’ll workout both morning and evening. If I can get in 6 or more sessions, the better.
3. Weight myself every Sunday morning and measure it against losing 2, 3 and 4 pounds a week.

So, here goes Day 1.
