I just submitted my Ignite DC proposal. I’ve been bombarding my social networks with Instagram pics, mostly as a big exeriment with the social platform, but too many great stories have come from my experience. So, I felt the need to present this to a larger community, and it made perfect sense to propose this to Ignite DC. Ignite is an event that happens in cities around the world, in which a presenter has Five minutes and 20 slides, each automatically moving every 15 seconds. At every Ignite, 16 artists, technologists, thinkers, and personalities take the stage to answer this: What would you say? The goal is to spark new conversations and collaborations across cultures and disciplines. I attended Ignite DC #7 and was blown away by the presentations and I completely missed #8, not even hearing about it until the tweets started invading my feed. Since then, I set text alerts to their Twitter account, so I wouldn’t miss a single announcement.
Once all proposals have been submitted, the committee narrows down the topics to 16, so I’m hoping they select my topic. The event is March 22 at the Town Danceboutique located at 2009 8th St NW in Washington, DC. Ticket link.
This should be incredibly fun, and I can’t wait to share this fanatical story. Here’s my pitch:
It seems like I’ve hopped into the sack with a mobile app without even bothering to ask about its own needs. That app is Instagram, which is becoming one of the most popular social platforms, known for making it easy to share filtered photos with your connected friends. But, how exactly can an app like this work for you, your neighborhood or the big city? In 5 minutes, I’ll take you through my fanatical ride of curiosity, obsession, failure, and redemption that ultimately puts Washington, DC in the global spotlight each and every day.
